Gaudeamus Saturday Night 2019

As summer begins to fade, the Gaudeamus Saturday Night mini-festival tunes into the seasonal mood change with a musical patchwork in which tradition and innovation are interwoven. This jam-packed programme in and around TivoliVredenburg's concert halls pays tribute to the newest experimental music in all its guises. From wrenching, edgy minimal music to the freshest of crossover electronics.

During the Gaudeamus Saturday Night, composers become pop singers - as in the brand new project Bec Plexus - and modern chanteuses like LUWTEN blossom into 10-piece ensembles. Classic works like Louis Andriessen's 1977 piece Hoketus, performed tonight by Ensemble Klang, rub shoulders with modern avant-garde percussionists like Eli Keszler.

Free jazz improvisers turn into ritualistic post-rockers in Jasper Stadhouders' PolyBand, while up-and-coming pop enigmas like Maria Somerville tread a fine line between indie and experimentalism. The resumption of our collaboration with internet radio station Stranded FM reveals the connections between contemporary ambient and electronics.

With these artists being a mere fraction of the whole, be sure to join us the 7th of September as the story unfolds...
